After finally learning how to machine stainless steel with a mill as opposed to milling tools with stainless steel, I wanted to redeem myself with a project in stainless. 

My previous wallet was on its last legs and I had seen Inheritance Machining's excellent wallet design and decided to create my own derivative version, but out of stainless. I especially love the tool paths hidden on the card side of it. 

The clip is made from a (unexpectedly brittle) piece of gorgeous blued spring steel stock. I love how the stainless and bluing complement each other.

Only one tap was snapped and one end mill ruined in the process, which I'd call an unequivocal success!

I had gotten into bread baking four years after everyone else and had picked up a secondhand stand mixer without the small attachment cover. 

After taking it apart, as every engineer must do at least once, I machined a new cover out of aluminum. However, in my zeal of making lovely chips, I bored right through the front of the cap! 

I had seen a trick (probably from Inheritance Machining) where you can cosmetically patch a part by creating a perfectly fitting plug and machine the two surfaces simultaneously to get an invisible patch. 

I planned initially to use a thermal or light interference fit, but didn't believe I could hit the sub-thou tolerances with a small boring bar. 

After getting really into tapers (seriously, they're amazing), I thought about using a self-locking taper angle on the part and the patch. 

By setting the lathe compound to an arbitrary shallow angle, I could machine the exact same taper angle (the critical dimension) in the patch and the part. From there, I just needed to make sure that the patch and part had regions with similar diameters. 

After tapering the parts, I mashed them together in an arbor press, finished facing the surface, and had "mistake free" stand mixer cap!

I needed a square mounting tool for the second hand cargo box I had bought cracked and had patched with strips of ABS sheet and copious amounts of ABS cement.

I was still relatively new to CNC but knew I could make this a fun project. Of course, I over complicated the design and didn't think enough about work holding, making the process more arduous than planned.

Also, I'm pretty sure the stock I picked was unexpectedly cast iron or very high carbon steel. Good thing carbide tooling doesn't mind much!
